This is Freddy.

Freddy came to TAS at three years old after being surrendered to the Humane Society. Feisty and wouldn’t allow me to get close to him, he was pretty aggressive at first but all he needed was some love, patience and kindness. Now, every night when it is lights out, I go in and cuddle with him until he falls asleep. He is a loving boy who just wants to cuddle up to you and love you forever.

Monty

Monty is a character out here. Loved by so many who come and meet him. He was found wondering in the fields near Airdrie. Weathered and worn, he was found by a compassionate person and was rescued. Monty was most likely a result of another misinformed pot belly pig buyer and owner. We have so many surrendered pot belly pigs because people buy them unaware of their needs and behaviours.

Monty has to be the sweetest kindest soul, but he doesn’t like being approached — he does however like to watch the visitors.

Little Man Pete

This is Little Man Pete. He was the smallest of the group of pot bellies that were surrendered together form one household. He would climb into anyone’s lap. He loves love, belly rubs and behind the ear scratches.

Emma

Emma is the matriarch of the pot belly pigs. She is a beautiful friend to Monty, who needed to be loved after being alone for a large part of his life.

She loves her belly rubs and watermelons.

Tucker

Tucker is a potbellied pig. He came to us initially as a temporary stay from an almost detrimental situation, but I guess the world had a different plan for him, as he is now with us permanently.

He loves his belly rubs and snout kisses. Loves apples, watermelon, pumpkin and bananas. He gets a low calorie, high fiber food, loves his straw nests and cuddles with his pig family. He is so friendly and will climb up on your lap for some attention.

Oliver

Oliver came to us at 6 weeks old. He was bought off of kijiji for entertainment purposes, then surrendered just after a day. Oliver already had his tail docked and his testicles removed – presumably, with no anesthetic – which are common practices on a pig farm. Oliver was most likely the luckiest one out of his litter. Oliver is genetically modified to grow to market weight by 6 months old (pigs are loaded and shipped to be slaughtered by 6 months). This rapid growth can cause a great deal of joint issues, so we feed a low calorie, high fiber food and make sure he is getting a lot of exercise to keep his growth rate minimized and his joints active and healthy while he grows. Oliver will get to be about 900 – 1000 lbs by the time he has stopped growing, so we want him to be loving life and being as healthy as he can be.

Oliver is now 1 yrs old and around 280 lbs, his best friend is a potbellied pig named Monty. He knows his name, loves his kisses and face rubs, and is super smart! He loves apples, carrots, watermelons, pumpkins and bananas!
